Battle: Los Angeles

Tum-troubling jerky-cam makes a dazzling return in this sci-fi blockbuster, that unfolds like an apocalyptic Saving Private Ryan being updated with aliens. The Dark Knight's Aaron Eckhart and latina saucepot Michelle Rodriguez are part of a platoon of soldiers sent to repel an alien invasion in crumbling L.A. Despite the overboard stereotyping (wow, a butch lady! A young officer out of his depth! A token Asian guy!), visually, it rocks out with some truly audacious set-pieces.

The handheld cameras, however, mean that popcorn binges could get pukey!
