Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have confirmed what had been feared, saying that “Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on 'Bond 23' indefinitely”. The MGM studio has been in financial straits for some time, and a new buyer is being sought. But that process is taking longer than expected.
The next James Bond film is due to be directed by Sam Mendes, and to star Rachel Weisz alongside Daniel Craig. It was also set for release at the end of 2011. The chances of it hitting that date now appear to be slim.
