Sun-drenched climes, scantily clad sorts and regular bouts of violence and lady-love – these be the heady ingredients for new Brit-flick-with-attitude, Siren.
Directed by Andrew Hull, (who art-directed horror flick P2), Siren is the story of fledgling couple Ken and Rachel (Eoin Macken and Anna Skellern) as they escape the city for a sailing weekend with old friend Marco (Anthony Jabre).
Fun, frolics and burnt shoulders are not to be the staples of this particular holiday though.
After answering a seemingly innocent distress call from a stranded (foxy) young damsel, their relaxing weekend quickly becomes a mind-bending orgy of sex, gore and betrayal as the couple desperately try and escape the "siren" alive.
The movie is beautifully shot, nicely paced and features some exciting up-and-coming British talent. It’s a welcome return to the simple thriller (think The Descent, Dead Calm and Open Waters) with lashings of sex and violence and loads of scenes with the brilliant Anna Skellern looking dead scared/forlorn and wearing tight/wet stuff. Which is okay with us.
If it’s a ballsy, bloody massacre with gorgeous women and beautiful scenery you’re after, don't go on a personal murdering spree in La Manga, keep an eye out for this one instead. More soon...
