Revenge, vigilante and disgruntled civilian movies can be great fun: Death Wish, Taken, A History Of Violence, Batman, Outlaw, even artier flicks like Dead Man's Shoes, all get the blood pumping as you cheer on the everyday man socking it to the bad guys because the authorities are so SHIT.

Law Abiding Citizen stomps smartly into this camp, despite being a VERY Hollywood undertaking of such a premise. Gerard Butler stars as a man out for vengeance when the killers of his family get an early prison release due to a deal struck with their dodgy lawyer (Jamie Foxx).

So he starts picking them off - including the corrupt officials - and does most of his 'dirty' work behind bars, using his sly old noggin to orchestrate the killing. It may sound barmy but it's a guaranteed 'serves-yer-right' fist-puncher.
