Top Ten: Top Billing Movie Fights

UK Certificate: 18

Where triple-A beefcakes go nose-to-nose in glitzy celluloid showdowns. The greatest, highest profile movie fights ever!

bruce lee chuck norris fight scene way of the dragon

Movie fights between two TOP BILLING action heroes is a rare thing, because let's face it, one of them has to have their arse kicked, and if you're a 250-pound strongman or a plasticine-limbed prodigy who can jump-kick coconuts from a tree 20-feet up without twanging your groin muscle, you are not going to want your arse kicked, no matter how much the studios are paying you.

But that said, there's been a few ultimate match-ups of mashed celebrity bone and multi-million-pound grimaces. These aren't necessarily the greatest fight scenes ever, but they're certainly the highest profile...

THE GREATEST MOVIE SQUARE-OFFS EVER (in reverse order)

10) HULK HOGAN vs TOMMY 'TINY' LISTER (aka ZEUS)
No Holds Barred (1989)

Essentially an extension of the WWE (then WWF) as the all popular 'King of patriotic Cheese' Hogan tussled with ex-ringster Lister under his actual character name Zeus. A decent actor, Lister also got to flex his acting muscle in several top watches, including Beverly Hills Cop II and better still, Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead.

9) TONY JAA vs NATHAN JONES
The Warrior King (aka The Protector - 2005)

The 21st century's greatest martial artist (Thailand's Muay Thai gravity-defier Tony Jaa) took on Australian 6ft 11in behemoth Nathan Jones, who was a top World Strongman contender (as 'MEGAMAN'), a WWE nastie and an ex-World Wrestling All Stars champion. He also once served seven years in a maximum security prison for EIGHT ARMED ROBBERIES, and is quite possibly the scariest, bulkiest fighter ever to stomp forth onto a movie set. Prepare to soil your M&S undies...

8) JACKIE CHAN vs KEN LO
The Legend of Drunken Master (1994)

Jackie mastered the art of 'drunken boxing' (loose-limbed, stumble-stanced pugilism) to tackle martial arts movie vet and fellow stunt-team member Ken Lo in this slapstick fist-fest.

7) BRUCE LEE vs KAREEM ABDUL-JABBER
Game Of Death (filmed 1973, released 1978)

NBA legend Abdul-Jabber is considered one of basketball's true greats, so no wonder his then-team Milwaukee Bucks went utterly ape when they heard he was to star opposite Bruce Lee in pagoda-climbing fight flick Game Of Death. At 7ft 2in, he cut a menacing figure, and his stature within world sport made for a spectacular droolworthy spar-off with teeny 5ft 7in Bruce.

6) ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER vs JESSE 'THE BODY' VENTURA
The Running Man (1987)

Technically, it wasn't Arnie being strewn over barbed wire and then plunged onto rusty spikes by the snarly WWF man, because in the context of the film, Arnie's image was being superimposed over the body of a previous contestant in this gladiatorial gameshow. But in reality, of course it was Arnie swapping broken jawlines with 'The Body'.

5) SYLVESTER STALLONE vs DOLPH LUNDGREN
Rocky IV (1985)

The only thing better than Sly's hilariously naff and patriotic speech was his trading of body blows with Dolph Lundgren, who was playing a genetically-enhanced Russian man-monster and slayer of best chum Appollo Creed. Dolph, of course, went on to head a few of his own action masterpieces, such as, um, Red Dawn.

4) JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME vs BOLO YEUNG
Bloodsport (1988)

China's 'Beast of the East' Bolo Yeung was not only one of Asia's most celebrated martial arts stars, he was also an acclaimed bodybuilder and weightlifter, too. You will probably best recognise his villainous pout as the evil, spine-snapping bodyguard from Enter The Dragon. His final fight from this Van Damme vehicle remains an absolute classic.

3) SYLVESTER STALLONE vs MR. T
Rocky 3 (1982)

Does this need any introduction? Mr. T - The A-Team and WWF's original king of bling - strolled his shouty self onto the set of the third Rocky to give the Italian stallion a battering as Clubber Lang. And the great thing about Rocky 3 is that this featured a rematch. Two pugilistic square-offs for the price of one!

2) BRUCE LEE vs CHUCK NORRIS
The Way Of The Dragon (1972)

Chuck Norris was relatively unknown at this time, other than for being a Pro Karate Champ. Then he bumped into Bruce at a martial arts showcase. They became mates. Result: a friggin' amazing movie showdown in Rome's Colliseum, where after some amusing warm-up exercises, Chuck has his chest-carpet ripped free from Bruce and his knuckles rudely broken. Then he gets a martyr's death. Cue poignant body-covering from a respectful Bruce. Touching and air-beatingly brilliant.

1) GODZILLA vs KING KONG
King Kong vs Godzilla (1962)

Um, what do you mean they weren't real fighters? F*** off!

Check out any of the fight scenes in Jet Li's remake of fist of fury (called Fist of Legend)...

Does Jet Li fight anyone of note in it though? I've not seen it. Is it a lot like the Brucey original?
