Tom Hooper's film adaptation of David Peace's novel flits faithfully beween Clough's Derby glory days and his doomed Leeds post, but his alcoholism is all but ignored, his hatred for Revie is downgraded to a mere dislike, and his constant bouts of isolation and paranoia are replaced by a brisk jollity. That said, Michael Sheen as Clough is brilliant, and Britain's acting elite (Jim Broadbent, Stephen Graham, Timothy Spall) do ensure that the film is nothing but an enjoyable one.
