WHAT'S THE STORY?
A launch title during the early days of Xbox, the original RalliSport Challenge was, you know, passable. Microsoft then spent two years tinkering with it and the result is more than a mere paint job. Boasting five unique rally sports, more orthodox disciplines are bolstered by gruelling hill climbs and precarious ice racing. There's also the self-explanatory crossover, whereby two cars go head-to-head on a glorified Scalextric track.
With narrower tracks, the difficulty bar has been raised and spillages are reflected in the extensive damage model. Crashes can also destroy the scenery, with roadside features bearing the brunt of your reckless driving.
But for all the improvements, the biggest deal is the support for Xbox Live, enabling you to race online against - and hurl obscenities at - an array of faceless strangers.
