Set in a seemingly post-apocalyptic version of Dubai, Spec Ops: The Line looks to be built upon the best, and biggest, beach ever. That soon changes when you start getting shot at... You can't build a top blobby sandcastle when there are bullets whizzing by your ears, we should know - we were in 'Nam.
We think we've skipped ahead a bit. So yes, you're in Dubai, the captain (voiced by Nolan North) of two teammates, sent to investigate a distress signal in the now-ruined city. Most people have evacuated, thanks to triple whopper style sandstorms that ravaged everything, and continue to do so on a regular basis.
Everything seems DESERTed (eh? eh??), so it comes as quite a shock when you are suddenly under fire after discovering the signal beacon to be a trap. Cue epic gunfights in some beautiful set pieces. Destructible scenery along with unstable floors means you can easily set up traps for your enemies, as well as fall foul of some yourself.
Combat is sweet, slick and satisfying, with our only current gripe being rather dim-witted AI, but as the game is yet to be released we're hoping that'll get sorted quick sharpish.
Keep an eye out for this one, it's sure to be a doozy.
