*WIN GAMES!* In space, no-one can hear you play Wii. EA's acclaimed Aliens-pilferer runs amok on Nintendo's machine
Despite its granny-friendliness, the Wii has managed to spew out a couple of decent horror treats recently(ish) - Madworld was tar-black cartoon violence, while House Of The Dead: Overkill was swearier than Viz's Roger Mellie discovering he'd just spunked his night's hooker money on a threesome of ladyboys.
Dead Space Extraction - a Wii-exclusive spin-off from last year's Aliens-esque thriller- is far more serious than the aforementioned gorefests, mixing in genuine frights along with the body splatter. And - GORE blimey, guv - it bloody works, too.
Built from the ground up with a storyline set a few days before the original, the big difference with Extraction is that it's a 'RAIL SHOOTER' - that is, you have little control over your character's movement, instead focusing on the crosshair of your space-age weaponry. So basically, it's not a massive leap, concept-wise, from House Of The Dead, then, but the added thrill comes from a necessity to zap off specific ET bodyparts to stop them from re-generating.
Brilliantly cinematic and excruciatingly tense, this game has been programmed with utmost precision. Plus, it has an ace gun which pitches a blade over alien heads before descending to lop off their gnarly limbs. Aceness!
