Virtua Tennis 2 was a textbook smash on the Dreamcast, which explains why nearly 10 years later the core gameplay remains virtually identical on next-gen editions. Extremely simple to get in to, a right bastard to truly master, you create your racket-wielding bod and then trot around a small map playing nifty training 'mini-games' to improve your stats, and entering tournies your ranking allows.
Inevitably, it plays smoother than Sharpova's waxed legs (even if it is extremely familiar). There's just one thing that grates - you have to endure about three hours worth of pathetically easy matches before you can enter a tournament that has any challenge. And boy, that is MONOTONOUS P-A-I-N.
Returning to the positives though, there's no better multiplayer tennis game around. And if you've got the Wii version, even better - the motion-sensor controls serve up an absolute ace. In fact, it's the best version of the lot. Champion!
