Bowling For Columbine Rating: Starring: Michael Moore UK Certificate: 18
What's it about?
Larger than life filmmaker Michael Moore's exploration of gun crime in the USA, taking as its starting point 1999's Columbine high-school massacre, in which 12 students and a teacher were killed by two armed pupils. It's chilling, blackly comedic and, at times, utterly heartbreaking. It's also the USA's most successful documentary ever.
What's it really about?
Bowling... attempts to discover why more than 11,000 people die in gun-related incidents in America every year, but anyone expecting easy, obvious answers will be surprised - Moore's adept at demolishing the lazy arguments of liberals and 'gun-nuts' alike.
What's bowling got to do with guns?
The students responsible for the Columbine shootings had a bowling 'lesson' at their local alley on the morning of the massacre.
Best moment?
Moore finds a bank which gives customers a free rifle for opening an account. His disbelief is palpable and hilarious.
Any extras?
Lots, apparently, but none that can be confirmed at press time. Safe to say a side-splitting 'bloopers reel' won't be included though.
