The Event

Release Date: 03-10-2011
UK Certificate: 18

To mark the release of The Event on DVD and Blu-ray, we've asked a bunch of celebs what they think about conspiracy theories. Incase you've ever wondered what they wonder...

SO, ARE ANY CONSPIRACY THEORIES WORTH LOSING SLEEP OVER?

Samuel L Jackson – A list Hollywood Star

“Not really. I stopped thinking about them a while ago. I got over that kind of ‘Big Brother is watching you’ theory, because Big Brother is watching you. The world is what it is.”

‘THE MOON LANDING’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FACT

Jesse Metcalfe – Desperate Housewives and Dallas Actor

“I laugh at the fact that people think that it is a conspiracy, you know, our landing on the Moon. I laugh at that. I think that is ridiculous. Well because, you know, a good friend of mine’s grandfather actually worked for NASA, you know, and he worked on, you know, all the Apollo missions - and stuff like that. I spent a lot of time with him before his death pretty recently – and, you know, we definitely landed on the moon. It wasn’t a hoax.”

Katie Melua – International Pop star

“The one that makes me laugh is the one about the moon landing. I have actually had the pleasure of meeting Buzz Aldrin, and he ..er.. is a bit of a friend of mine and I know for a fact that he definitely landed on the moon. So I can rest that one to bed.”

Simon Bird – an ‘Inbetweener’

“I don’t believe in most Conspiracy Theories. That one is fake. I believe that it was real. That’s all I have to say on the matter.”

Haley Joel Osment – Film Star

“All the theories are interesting, but I don’t believe many have been true. There are a lot that are too silly for words; the Moon landing one is particularly strange. Do you remember that video where Buzz Aldrin punches out the guy who confronts him, the judge just let him off cause he is an American hero – that one I think is one of the least credible.”

FICTION

Simon Webbe – Blue

“I think the one with the landing on the moon is all a bit...with the wind and the flag ....I thought that is a bit staged.”

‘THERE IS A MONSTER IN LOCH NESS’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FACT

Holly Willoughby – TV Presenter for This Morning and Dancing On Ice

“Does he exist? Well I’d like to think so. Oh I’d love it if he did, if he just came up one day and pocked his little head up out of the water and went ‘Hello, it’s me. I’ve been here all the time’. Wouldn’t it be great? Of course the Loch Ness Monster is a ‘he’ - cause you don’t have girl monsters.”

FICTION

Emma Willis: Host of ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’.

“I have thought a lot about actually and when I’ve been in Scotland I’ve always wanted to go to Loch Ness and see if it’s there because, how can it have been around – how many years has this fable been going on for? - yet only a handful of people have seen it – how about all the people that must live near it that have never see it? Maybe the ‘humps’ are a random freak tide coming in from the world turning, I don’t know. I don’t know but I want to believe in the Loch Ness Monster cause I do believe in aliens - but I don’t think I do believe in Nessy.”

‘ALIENS EXIST – THEY’VE BEEN HERE’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FACT

Duncan James- Singer/Actor

“I’d like to think there is - because of all this new technologies and stuff. I’m a huge fan of that whole Area 51 - and all that kind of stuff when they say that the UFO actually crashed and they actually had an alien. I’d love to be able to be invisible for a day, get in there and have a good old nosey round and see if they actually did uncover a UFO and an alien. I’d like to think there is.’

FICTION

Daniel Craig

“I think there is life out there (in the universe) - I don’t know if they have ever visited here - but I think there is life out there.”

‘THERE ARE LIZARD PEOPLE RULING US’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FACT

Alex Reid – Mr Katie Price (ex), Celebrity Big Brother winner

“Actually I find Conspiracy Theories fascinating - I think Elvis is dead, but I wonder about the moon, I don’t know about that. I’ve got all the David Icke books, I’ve got all of those books and I’ve read them, they are quite interesting. I’ve met him actually and I think he’s been misconstrued. (David Icke believes that a secret group of reptilian humanoids called the Babylonian Brotherhood controls humanity and that many prominent figures are reptilian including George W. Bush and Queen Elizabeth ll.) I find the stuff fascinating. The thing is actually when you speak to him he is actually quite intelligent. I was just in Stonehenge yesterday being ordained as a Knight by King Arthur into the Druidship and I was actually asking them - and all at once they looked at me and said ‘those bloody weirdoes’ – but there is a lot more that we don’t know about this planet then we do know. I am now a Druid, I am actually, yes. You may address me as Sir Lancelot.”

FICTION

Joe Thomas – Inbetweeners

“The lizard people? Oh yes that’s true, yea. No I’m kidding around. I reckon I am probably like 60/40 sure that it is not - yea, well, 50/50. If I was putting money on it I would probably back the ‘Non-Lizard Theory’. So, yes, I am not totally sure about that one.”

‘WE BEEN VISITED BY UFOs’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FICTION

Dappy – Lead singer of N-Dubz

“You know the whole Conspiracy thing, the world of Illuminati, Freemasons, listen, whether it’s true they are not bothering us. You can just want to believe it and you’ll start feeling paranoia and frustrated with your own self - ‘Yea what are they actually gonna do? They are going to put chips in my arm, or they are gonna do this or they are going to do that’ - and you think to yourself as long as they don’t bother me and they don’t touch me and they don’t physically harm me whoever these people are, Masons, the world of Illuminati, I don’t believe it. As long as they don’t touch us, we are fine – so forget about them.

“UFOs? No. I don’t believe in ghosts, I don’t believe in spirits, I don’t believe in UFOs. If I see one I’ll knock ‘em out.”

FICTION

Siva Kaneswaran of The Wanted

“Yes if you look at Tom Parker, one of the lads in the band, he is a clear example of a UFO.”

‘ELVIS IS ALIVE’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FICTION

Darius – pop star – now based in LA

“Certainly as far as Conspiracy Theories go, their’s (the Americans) go a little bit far out and get a little bit wacky. I think the world is crazy enough as it is - with all the rioting and the way the economy is. I don’t think you need Conspiracy Theories to certify that we live in a crazy world - but one of them I do know for certain. Elvis definitely died.”

FACT-ish

Ali Bastian – Hollyoaks and Strictly

“Elvis exists? Yea that’s a good Conspiracy Theory. Do you think he is knocking around somewhere – on a yacht somewhere – hot – that would be lovely for him? Does he or doesn’t he exist? I don’t know, I mean dying on a toilet with a hamburger, what a way to go. I hope that’s not true. I hope he is still shaking it somewhere.”

‘JACK THE RIPPER WAS ACTUALLY JILL’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FICTION

Ann Widdecombe – The Rt. Hon – and star of Strictly Come Dancing

“I think Conspiracy Theories generally speak for themselves. They are usually dreamt up by people who generally haven’t got anything else to occupy their minds with. – but I won’t accuse anyone interested in this survey, of that - but I suppose the most stupid Conspiracy Theory on this earth must be that Jack The Ripper was Jill the Ripper.”

‘THE YETI EXISTED – WE JUST HAVEN’T FOUND HIM YETI’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FACT

Jeff Brazier – host of OK TV

“When you think about Conspiracy theories you have to think about things that have been said to exist such as the UFOs – I believe I have seen one myself – but of course quite interesting is the Yeti situation. They’ve found the footprints, they’ve found people ravaged to death. But was it done at the hands of a big Abominable Snowman - a.k.a. The Yeti - or was it not? Who knows? Will we ever find out? That is what makes a good Conspiracy Theory.

“I think there probably is such a thing such as a Yeti – but it is probably extinct by now. Maybe it existed but it is just gone, that’s why we haven’t found it cause we find pretty much everything these days don’t we? Google maps have pretty much cornered the earth- they know exactly what - you know we have CC TV in the jungle these days I’m sure and if we can’t see what’s going up on those things then it’s probably likely that it doesn’t exist - anymore.”

‘BANKS ACTUALLY CONCOCT THE ECONOMIC DOWNFALLS’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FACT

KT Tunstall – singer

“I am easily persuaded that the economic crashes over the last 100 years have been fairly manufactured to work in the rich bankers’ favours. And as for the Federal Reserve, I find it very bizarre that America’s money is owned by a private Bank. There is definitely an element of Illuminati involved in that whole scene that I find quite interesting.”

‘BRUCE LEE IS STILL WORKING-OUT SOMEWHERE’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FACT

Leigh Francis – TV Comic

“I tell you what Kevin Webster from Coronation Street he told me ‘There is no way is Bruce Lee dead- fittest man in’t world!! No way’. That’s what he said. When Michael Jackson died he said ‘I don’t believe he’s dead’. I said ‘I think he is. Yea he’s dead’. So he said ‘Bruce Lee’s not dead’- so Bruce lee is still alive according to Kevin Webster from Coronation Street, I don’t know his real name, I just call him Kevin Webster. Where is he? I don’t know maybe in Bradford or somewhere, working in Kentucky, they are normally working somewhere like that or a fish shop or something like that, these heroes.”

‘THE SASQAUTCH – ‘BIGFOOT’ – CAUGHT ON FILM, WAS GENUINE’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FICTION

Just Lee Collins – TV host and Comic

“It the famous Sasquatch film, have you seen the famous footage? You see him walking in the woods, somewhere in America and he sort of turns and almost looks at the camera. It’s the most famous, so called, genuine Big Foot footage ever caught on camera.

“I went to a Magic Convention in Canton Ohio where I performed this ‘Justin Illusion’ – and I am not going to name names but I met a very, very well known man, who is connected to the magic industry, who told me that he supplied the suit for that very famous footage. I don’t know whether it’s true but this man in the magic community told me that he supplied the Sasquatch suit for the most famous footage that was ever shot of the supposed Big Foot.”

‘PAUL MACCARTNEY IS AN IMPOSTER’ - FACT OR FICTION?

FICTION

Shayne Ward – Pop star and West End performer in ‘Rock of Ages’

“There is a Conspiracy Theory about Paul McCartney from The Beatles. My uncle brought this to my attention I’d say about a year ago -because he is a huge fan of The Beatles. And he said that he died, that Paul McCartney died and that they had replaced him. I don’t believe it. There is obviously a lot of stuff obviously surrounding it that makes you think ‘Actually I am doubting that, maybe he did die!’. But if he did die this new Paul McCartney is unbelievable.

“But I don’t believe it’s true. Definitely not. There are a lot of Conspiracy Theories going round but, no, this is definitely the original Paul McCartney. There is only one.”
