Valhalla Rising

In a career-defining role, Casino Royale villain MADS MIKKELSEN stars as some one-eyed mute with sod all backstory, who does little else than fight back whenever he's attacked, and when he fights back, bones get splintered, heads get lopped, internal organs get spilled, and lives get lost in places that definitely aren't under the centre cushion on the sofa, next to a rusty penny farthing that Great Uncle Bert concealed under his foreskin as part of a rugby dare in 1962.

Valhalla Rising is a slow-paced but brutal medieval almost-an-action-flick-but-isn't-quite-an-action-flick, which is also very compelling. The script is amazing, even though Mads doesn't actually say anything. It should win an Oscar.
