Though it's been invariably viewed as the big-screen version of the BBC's brilliant political comedy, The Thick Of It, this sublime post-Iraq satire stands up on its own merits. Directed by The Thick Of It creator, Armando Iannucci, it's accessible for newbies, but fans will be relieved to know that is brutal (and hilarious) political manhandling hasn't been dumbed down, with cast and eyebrow-stripping profanity intact.
The plot involves a junior minister accidentally giving support to a conflict abroad and getting caught between US government hawks and the PM's ferocious enforcer, Malcolm Tucker. Toss in James Gandolfini playing a US General and you've got one of the best comedies of the last year.
