As forerunners to and the inspiration behind such metalheaded behemoths as Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, you’d have thought in 2009 Anvil would be lounging around in ridiculous home cinemas thumbing Harley catalogues and berating their spoilt offspring for letting the new pooch shit all over the rugs. Not so.
Steve ‘Lipps’ Kudlow, Anvil’s crazy-faced lead singer, delivers boxes in Toronto, and still craves true recognition and fame alongside his best mate, the band’s drummer Robb Reiner.
However, despite being abandoned by the recording industry three decades ago and hovering just above poverty line ever since, the pair still believe they’re good enough to make it.
Life-affiriming, emotive, dead funny and a real watchable joy from stage left to final credit, if you’re not rooting for the fifty-something rockers at the end your soul truly is made of dust. We recommend most ferociously.
